Dust Mite is a children’s character, so this is short and plain. The game collects nothing. The website counts visits, and keeps a cart’s number if you shop. Here is exactly what that means.
The game
The Dust Mite game, on this website and as an app for phones and tablets, collects no information about anyone. It has no accounts, no ads and nothing to buy. It does not ask for a name, an age, a location, a camera, a microphone or contacts.
The game keeps three things on the device it is played on: the pictures that have been colored, whether the sound is on, and the last crayon used. They never leave the device. Deleting the app, or clearing the browser’s data for this site, erases them.
The app contains no advertising or tracking software, and it works without an internet connection. Its links to the coloring book, the shop and this website sit behind a question meant for grown-ups.
The App Store and Google Play tell us how many times the app has been installed. Those numbers come from the stores. The app itself sends nothing to us or to anyone else.
This website
dustmite.kids counts visits with Google Analytics, which sets cookies to tell one visit from another. Every advertising feature is switched off: the site shows no ads, builds no advertising profiles and shares nothing for advertising. The numbers are kept for two months.
Vercel, which hosts the site, also counts page views. Its count sets no cookies and is not tied to a person or an IP address: it tells one visit from another with a code that it throws away after 24 hours.
The page that holds the game is counted like any other page: that it was opened, and nothing about what happens in the game.
The site is hosted by Vercel. Like any web host, it handles the technical details needed to deliver a page, such as an IP address.
The videos
The home page shows Dust Mite’s cartoons, which are kept on YouTube. Until someone presses play, each one is only a picture stored on this site, and nothing is loaded from YouTube.
Pressing play loads YouTube’s player from youtube-nocookie.com, YouTube’s privacy-enhanced mode, and from then on that video is under YouTube’s own privacy policy. The videos are marked as made for kids, so YouTube shows no personalized ads on them and limits what it collects.
The contact form
The form is for grown-ups. It asks for a name, an email address and a message, and sends them to Ben as an email through Resend, an email service, which keeps a record of the emails it delivers. Nothing is stored on this website, nobody is added to a list, and the address is used only to reply.
Children
This site is written for parents, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If a child writes through the contact form, we answer once and delete the message. A parent who wants a message deleted can ask through the same form.
The books and the shop
The storybook and the coloring book sell on Amazon, which has its own privacy policy.
The shirts, mugs, stickers, posters and the rest are shown on this site’s shop pages and sold by Fourthwall. Fourthwall is the seller of everything in the shop, and its checkout runs on its own page, at shop.dustmite.kids, under its own privacy policy. As the shop’s owner we can see its orders.
When something goes in the cart, this site keeps one cookie, dm_cart, that holds the cart’s number, so the same cart is there on the next page and at checkout. What is in the cart is kept by Fourthwall. The cookie holds nothing about the person shopping, and it is forgotten after a month without use.
